Wind Advisory Alert for Blair, PA and Surrounding Counties
Hey there, weather watchers! We’ve got some urgent news for you. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a wind advisory for today, March 20, 2024, in Blair, PA, and several other counties. This advisory has been announced due to the expected gusty winds between 30-50 mph, which are anticipated as a cold front moves across the state.
What’s Happening?
Along with the gusty winds, we’re also expecting some lake effect snow behind this cold front. This could lead to 1-3 inches of snow accumulation in the northwest mountains. Keep an eye out for brief localized heavy snow showers that could cause sudden visibility reductions. It’s all part of the weather roller coaster we’re riding today!
Where and When?
The wind advisory is in effect from 11 AM this morning to 8 PM EDT this evening. The counties impacted include Cambria, Blair, Huntingdon, Somerset, Bedford, Fulton, and Franklin. So, if you’re in any of these areas, including the cities of Johnstown, Altoona, Huntingdon, Mount Union, Somerset, Bedford, McConnellsburg, and Chambersburg, brace yourself for the wind!
What are the Impacts?
Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects and potentially bring down tree limbs. There’s also a risk of a few power outages. So if you’ve got any outdoor furniture or decorations, now’s the time to secure them. And if you’re driving, especially a high-profile vehicle, use extra caution.
Precautionary Measures
- Secure outdoor objects
- Use extra caution when driving
- Stay informed about high wind safety information
